Epler / Horace Reeve house burns
Mark's Posts The Epler House, aka Horace Reeve house, featured in a series of photographs that I took, has burned to the ground.  The home was a common destination for ghost hunters and urban explorers, and apparantly those who play with matches.

AmmoNow is on version 2.0
Mark's Posts Another web site I run that lists ammunition prices has reached version 2.0! It got a complete rewrite, and looks pretty good now.  I have some ideas for stuff to add, such as retailer reviews, but that's off in the distance.  If you are a shooter, check it out!

Plain camera, now awesome
Mark's Posts I've always wanted a camera with a focus lock.  My Fuji S8100 rocks, but is missing this feature unless you go into manual focus mode.  Also, I've always wanted to take pictures while on motorcycle trips, but found it too much of a pain to stop, get the camera out, take the picture, put the camera back away, etc, every time I wanted to take a photo.

So, with my old camera, and a bit of soldering, I now have a camera I can mount on the motorcycle, complete with focus lock and remote shutter.  Short the green wire to the yellow wire to focus the camera (this emulates pressing the shutter button down halfway, then add the red wire into the mix momentarily to snap the photo.  The other wires can be left shorted to hold the focus indefinitely.

Click here for a photo of the now-awesome camera.  I'll try to get a photo of the camera on the motorcycle once I mount it.

Southwest Ride
Mark's Posts Went on a really nice and pretty long motorcycle ride yesterday.  We found some really nice, curvy roads to follow.

I just installed a program that will allow me to put my rides over a google map, so here's the link to yesterday's ride.

Ameer's in the City Market
Mark's Posts I was downtown a few days ago and decided on the City Market for lunch.  I pondered the signs, and finally chose Philadelphia Steak & Cheese, but was greeted by a really long line.  Sure, it was being managed really well, even with an order-taker working her way through the line (Portillo's style), but the restaurant I was standing in front of already had NO ONE in line.  It was Ameer's, with a sign promising Mediterranean food.  Their special of the day was a gyro, with chips and a drink for under $7.  I couldn't pass it up (after I hit the ATM, they only take cash).

Amazing.  I'm not a huge gyro person, but I know when I like something, and I was in love with this gyro.  Not only did I feel good because I was helping out the little-guy underdog, but that sandwich was amazingly good.  If you ever happen to be around the City Market, give Ameer's a shot.  It is in the west wing- on your right if you are walking from the central part of the building.  If you don't like the gyro, there is something wrong with you.

Done!
Mark's Posts Mark writes "OK, it looks like everything is as back-to-normal as it is going to be with doodeman.org.  Gallery2 is gone.  I broke it beyond repair.  All the photos are fine, though, so they are still accessible on this site.  I'm using igal2 to generate the simple indexes and slides.  While simple, it works.  The last step is to get the RSS feeds working.

Blog
Mark's Posts So... This is different.  There's a blog here now, not just a photo gallery.

I decided to make this site more text-friendly, while at the same time keeping the gallery that was here before.  I'm using php-nuke for the blog content, which is supposed to integrate nicely with Gallery2, the photo software I have been using.  I broke gallery2 today, but once I fix it, I think everything will be working nicely here, with a little more focus on the content surrounding photos that are posted.
